Sox Fans; Place Your Betts
Sox fans; place your Betts! Mookie Betts that is. In his first 2 HR game, Mookie Betts and Rick Porcello teamed up to take out the Rays in a game that had early overtones of doom and gloom. But Betts had other ideas and although Porcello gave up 8 hits through his seven innings pitched, he was in control and only once had any serious threat working.
The Rays had the first two men on in the fourth when Betts snared a Logan Forsythe shot to center and then caught Longoria with too much of a lead at second. End of threat. Also in the fourth, David Ortiz slammed one to the triangle in center but Kiermaier made a great play at the wall taking away what should have been a dinger.
The Sox could only manage five hits but two of them were solo shots by Betts, one in the sixth and one in the eighth, each deposited over the monster in left center. Other than that, Smyly had the Sox guns stymied. Six Boston batters had O-fers.
In other highlights of the night, Ogando and Uehara once again teamed up for the one-two punch to close out the night. But as positive as the pitching was last night, we’re all still wondering. The Sox have one of the worst team ERA’s in baseball and the preseason hope that Buchholtz would emerge as the ace seems as likely as snow at the equator and Kelly is still a question mark.

Hanley is day to day. Victorino, Escobar and Workman are on the 15 day DL, Hannigan is on the 60 day DL and Vasquez is out for the season. Although they wanted to give him more time in Pawtucket, Swihart seems to have adapted nicely.
