On The Sacking of Don Orsillo; A Letter To John Henry
Dear Mr Henry,
I’m an ardent Red Sox fan as are many of my friends and this letter is to inform you of our thoughts on your decision to release Don Orsillo from the broadcast booth in favor of Dave O’Brien.
Dave O’Brien is an excellent broadcaster and he and Joe Castiglione make a phenomenal tandem for the WEEI Red Sox radio network. I couldn’t ask for two better announcers. Dave O’Brien is also a superb TV booth man and no doubt my choice to replace Don Orsillo if he were no longer the voice of Red Sox Nation.
Herein lies the rub. Don Orsillo IS the voice of Red Sox Nation. As much as the Red Sox are our team….. Don Orsillo is our announcer. He and Jerry Remy not only make the good games better, but they take the pain out of the difficult days. In this dismal, sub .500 season, fans are still watching and Orsillo and Remy exemplify our dedication to Red Sox Nation through thick and thin.
Bottom line is that we LOVE THEM and we our your customers. You are in business because of your customers, not in spite of them. Please consider our wishes.
Of course, if this is Orsillo’s decision then we respect that but are still saddened by his departure.
